A Chorister’s Life
We've both been in the choir for just over a year
And we thought it would be nice for you to hear
What we think it's like so you can tell
Others who may want to join as well ...
We enjoy being choristers because lots of the music is really good. We really like Haydn, Langlais and Peter Warlock and before becoming choristers, we wouldn’t even have heard of most of these anyway! When we sing music we like, we get an adrenaline rush and feel exhilarated and excited. We also feel proud when we sing well. Mr Hale is a brilliant Rector Chori (Choir Master); he helps us to sing well and he tells us lots of funny stories too!

The other good thing about the music is that we get to have voice lessons with Ms Nichol who’s really fun. We also get free piano lessons and can learn another instrument too. We are both learning the ‘cello. Singing in the choir helps us with these instruments because we can read music and sense pitch.
We sing at special services and concerts throughout the year, such as Advent, St Cecilia and Carol Services. We also get to sing with other choirs – we’re going to Leicester Cathedral next week. We also get to sing on the radio and we were on the TV before Christmas – (it was a bit embarrassing to see ourselves on the telly!) We have to practise a lot for these events but the hard work is worth it if we sound good!
We like being part of a team and mixing with different age groups. Our ages range from 8 to 14. Everyone looks out for each other at school which is really nice as you feel part of a community or a special group.
Although we practise hard, we do get some days off for trips. We went to Crich Tram Museum in the summer and the new Dean threw a Christmas party for us which was really good fun! We’ve got bowling and burgers booked for this term and have a choir bonfire party and summer barbecue every year. What we're really looking forward to this year is our choir tour to Italy in May. As well as singing in a number of churches, we're going to the beach and to see some caves and Roman ruins.
We hope that other boys will read this and think about joining us. We’re very friendly and don’t bite – honest!
